Exodus
Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt and Andreas Liebmann presents a performance concert based on their journey to Sicily, where an unexpected and makeshift friendship was born. Inspired by, amongst others, medieval ballads they approach the political situation in today’s Europe.
A small family, hailing from Switzerland and Denmark, go on holiday to the Sicilian mountains in Italy. By chance they en up in the house Mondo Nuevo – a provisional home for nine men fleeing from Nigeria. The men are recovering from their boat journey, awaiting further travel documents. The small family and the nine men exchange songs and stories and a makeshift friendship is formed. Time passes, the friends play ping-pong while the blond child plays around with a flip-flop sandal. Exodus is a performance piece performed and created by the Schmidt-Liebmann family. Their story about the new Europeans is one about the actual physical meeting, a meeting that goes far beyond just documentary, a meeting that has been transformed into fiction.
