EuroPride Vogue Ball
Perhaps you’re not familiar with the concept Vogue Ball. If not, you’re not alone. The phenomenon is rather new in Sweden. Gothenburg hosted its first one in 2016
The concept of vogueing is more known – it’s an art form that emerged in the gay bars of New York during the early 1980’s. Poses from the fashion magazine Vogue were copied on the dance floor, and then gradually developed into a variety of dance styles. Hand and arm movements are often central in vogueing, as are the impulses toward symmetry and precision.
Vogue Ball is a competition where the dancers are judged by an international jury. A jury member serves as Master of Ceremonies, a narrator who presents the competitors as well as the styles, the categories of the evening. They might be doing Red Velvet Runway, in which the participants wear red and perform on a catwalk, or Golden Olden Way, in which they must wear something golden.
The art form is a mix of high quality dance and playful entertainment with elements of drag.
