Entre Chiens et Louves
Passion on several storeys
The performance on 21 August begins with a short festival opening ceremony on stage, immediately followed by Entre Chiens et Louves.
After the performance on 21 August, the audience is warmly invited to celebrate the opening of the festival in the foyer bar. Spoken English will occur, without surtitles.
Single tickets will be released on 21 May.
The festival begins in an explosive inauguration with the art of circus widening its boundaries to become pure narrative art. An historic epic poem in which breathtaking acrobatics, dance and theatre meet and stretch over time, memory and dream. The lives of three figures are woven together over three separate years: 1870, 1960 and 2022.
Entre Chiens et Louves offers grandiose images and intimate moments in a scenography of three rooms in which the story moves horizontally and vertically. A stack of three connected rooms like an open doll’s house. A circus that unfolds over floors, walls, doors and storeys, transforming into a performance space for dizzying acrobatics and for high drama. We experience a love duet performed in handstands and a ballroom scene with the dance evolving into acrobatics. It’s cool, daring, rough and beautiful, all at once.
A world full of passion, seen from a profoundly human perspective. In a unique combination of circus and dance, we discover life stories woven into a larger narrative about freedom, revolution, love and that which forms our societies and ourselves as individuals. This is a performance filled with funny dialogue, moving situations and beautiful visual images that resonate emotionally as well as esthetically.
Cirque Le Roux has coined the term ciné-cirque to describe their own mix of acrobatics, theatre and humor. With their cinematic form of expression and their technical brilliance, they have established themselves as one of the most unique voices in contemporary circus art. The company had its international breakthrough with The Elephant in the Room and has thereafter received a number of prestigious awards and distinctions. In 2023 they were invited by the iconic Parisian department store Le Bon Marché to create Entre Chiens et Louves. An audacious and visually magnificent production that further strengthens their international standing. This performance opens The Gothenburg Dance and Theatre Festival and it marks the first appearance of Cirque Le Roux in Sweden.
