Aerial Zenit Ballet
ARIA
Aria is not a traditional circus performance. Rather, it is a ballet in the sky. An airborne choreography in which the dancers move with a precision and a suppleness reminiscent of classic ballet and synchronized swimming. Time and again they lift high over the audience, sailing under a gigantic moon in a lighting design with equal parts simplicity and magic.
The movements in the air create hypnotic formations, filled with allegory and symbolism, that are emotionally moving without any need for explanation. Stillness and softness combine with vibrating adrenaline. Collective energy flows between the dancers, teamwork and trust are central in the creation of physical excitement. This is a sensual experience that speaks directly to the emotions of all who watch, of all ages.
The music is Max Richter’s version of Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, a melancholy and expansive soundscape that underlines an experience of nature’s cycles and strengthens themes of time, change and loss. Together with the world class artists, it assists in creating a poetic and magnificent performance, filling the skies over Götaplatsen with stillness, wonderment and collective presence.
Zenit Aerial Ballet, in the fluid space between dance and circus, gives the city an active role in the performance. Through the use of advanced rigging techniques and a highly sophisticated sense of space, they create works that open public areas for collective experiences. Their work is characterized by precision, visual clarity and an ability to shuffle perspectives on space, the human body and scenic art as such.
