Their stated ambition is to allow virtuoso dancers with different educational backgrounds to enrich each other and be challenged to discover new, exciting languages of dance. Their performances are often on the cutting edge when it comes to scenography, lighting and music. The company has a long tradition of collaborative work with well-known, as well as less established choreographers. Their huge repertoire is indeed impressive and includes many pioneering dance pieces.

During the festival we will experience four shorter pieces combined into a full evening program. To the music of Philip Glass, the dancers explore the development of three relationships in Shoot the Moon. The piece, choreographed by the company’s artistic directors Sol Léon and Paul Lightfoot, contrasts lyrical passages with grotesque slapstick. The Statement is an intense piece in which four characters dressed in business suits struggle around a conference table. The associate choreographer of NDT, Crystal Pite, will be back in Gothenburg in the autumn to work with the Gothenburg Opera Dance Company. Woke up blind, by NDT’s associate choreographer Marco Goecke, takes its point of departure in the sensitive music of the tragically departed Jeff Buckley. Goecke challenges the dancers to surpass the intensity of Buckley’s voice and frenetic guitar playing. The evening concludes with another piece by house choreographers Léon/Lightfoot. Singulière Odyssée is an elegant exploration of the deeply human striving towards movement and transformation, set in an art deco-inspired train station in which people arrive and depart in an endless stream.
