icodaco
International residency with International Contemporary Dance Collective
-Stora Baletten / Stora Teatern-
15-27 augusti
This year the festival hosts five choreographers in an international residency. iCoDaCo is the biennial project akin to an international travelling festival. Its purpose is to incubate and combine the practices of several dance makers from across Europe. The project brings about a collaboration that offers the dance makers the chance to transcend their own practices, incubate ideas and challenge notions of creation and performance.
In 2016 Lee Brummer and Israel Aloni, directors of ilDance, Sweden, will be joined by Johanna Nuutinen from Finland, and Gwyn Emberton and Eddie Ladd from Wales. Following on from over a year of research, they will come together during three final residencies to create BABULUS. This residency will be open to questions, curiosities and support of other makers, practitioners, performers and students through open morning classes and a studio presentation.
BABULUS will be presented in Stora Teatern in November and will after that tour across Europe from November 2016. If you are interested in joining open morning class, please register here! Soon we will update you on public events and the studio presentation!

Gothenburg Dance and Theatre Festival will host the publication release on the first day of the festival’s Professional Program. Dansbaren—The Mob without Flash is a printed object consisting of two parts: a book dedicated to critical thinking in the field of dance and choreography and a tablecloth of topics. It is a tool for continuing dialogues, putting dance discourse, literally, on the table.
In both a local and international context Dansbaren, a series of public talks and discussions initiated by Gothenburg artist-run platform Dansbyrån, has been uniting dance and choreography theory with practice for 15 years. This publication re-activates Dansbaren’s central topics: dialogue formats, power relations, aesthetics, self-organization, sharing knowledge, appropriating language, artistic practice, history making and feedback methods.
The co-authors/editors of Dansbaren—The Mob without Flash Ingrid Cogne and Marika Hedemyr, and the two other choreographers leading Dansbyrån Paula de Hollanda and Moa Matilda Sahlin, will be present at the release to discuss the publication in detail and invite you to participate in the activation of their object—to unfold the material for discussion together.
On behalf of the co-authors/editors of Dansbaren—The Mob without Flash Ingrid Cogne and Marika Hedemyr, Dansbyrån warmly welcome you to this event.
