Sol Invictus
A ritual of light
Sol Invictus, latin för ”the invincible sun god”, is a large-scale, powerful and glittering dance performance that celebrates life, community and light. Mythologies of the gods of antiquity such as Apollo and Ra are told through bodies, rhythms, movements and light.
This ensemble of international dancers with backgrounds in street dance, breakdance, acrobatics and contemporary dance radiates extreme professionalism, stage presence and physical strength.
The dancers appear at times almost superhuman; there is something god-like in their collective movements. Together, their bodies create a unified, pulsating being.
The scenography and light design in this piece capture the symbolism of the sun and transform the stage into a site of ritual rather than narration. Classic works are woven together in a suggestive, rhythmic fabric that strengthens the moves and the field of energy created before our eyes. Original music by Mikael Karlsson, who wrote the music for the acclaimed dance performance Hammer, contributes to the symphonic pulse and emotional intensity of this performance.
Sol Invictus is an explosive, rhythmic and visually intense production that has been received internationally and here in Sweden with great enthusiasm. A large-scale tribute to the collective and ceremonial power of dance.

Hervé Koubi was educated at l’École de Danse and shortly thereafter began his career in choreography focusing on themes of identity, tradition and community. In Compagnie Hervé Koubi, founded in 2010, he has gathered dancers with backgrounds in urban dance, capoeira and contemporary techniques, often with roots in North Africa and the Mediterranean countries.
In addition to his choreography and his dance company, Hervé Koubi runs pedagogical and social projects using dance as a bridge between cultures and generations. In 2015 he was awarded the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his contributions in the art of dance.
